Happy Friday 10/8/21

Happy Friday! Any exciting weekend plans? We’re celebrating Brooks’ birthday with a best-friend sleepover (our first!) and a s’mores layer cake. I haven’t been baking much lately and can’t wait to get back in the kitchen and try this recipe! Hope you have a good one!

Here are some fun links from the week…

The way American parents think about chores is bizarre. Children naturally want to help at a very early age - but many families wait to conscript them until that desire has faded. (Atlantic)

Love these very pretty landscapes from Washington state by Shannon Elle. (Etsy, instagram)

“I like old things. I like things that make me feel things. To me it’s a very emotional thing.” Kirsten Dunst on the design of her home. (@amyastley)

Have you figured out Halloween costumes yet? Usually we piece together some from the costumes and dress up clothes we have, but this year I caved and let the kids pick. Love all the whimsical and affordable costumes from here - we’ll have a Harry Potter, Prof. Dumbledore (close enough, right?!), and a unicorn. (maisonettte affiliate)

The renovation story behind a beautiful deVol kitchen in a New Jersey brownstone. (devol)

I’ve been a little obsessed with pleated fabric lamp shades lately…you too?! Currently eyeing this pretty sconce. (pooky)

Discovered this talented duo this week after Garrett heard them perform live at a cider festival in our small town. (Spotify)

Related to this one: “This is how I look taking my kid to school, my sanitized fingers crossed.” Also, I’m tempted to get bangs now (like the author’s). Should I get bangs? (nytimes)

Loved this home with a playful take on grandeur. (houseandgarden)

Planning to add cafe curtains to our bathroom remodel (and anywhere else I can think of ;). (thegoldhive)

I’ve been listening to The Huntress this week and it’s a real page turner (or whatever the equivalent is for an audio book!). (amazon affiliate, indiebound)

Hope you have a good one!
